Everyone keeps telling me buy and hold is dead, so it must be dead, right? I'm not convinced. But if it is dead, what killed it and why? Is it too simplistic to work? Is it too old fashioned? Is it because buy and hold didn't deliver for the decade ending in 2009?

 

Whatever the reason, the hammer came down hard. Fairholme Fund has been cut in half by negative returns and redemtions. Putnam and American Funds have been slammed with redemptions. Taxable bond funds are raking in the money this year at the expense of stock funds.

 

Is Bill Gross right? Are equities dead? Is that why buy and hold has been abandoned? What brought us to this point? A lot of things.  Log in to read more . . .
