When I look at our industry today, I see a commoditized marketplace.  I see a lot of firms offering the same products to the same people with the same results.  Advisors are similar, practices are similar, service is the same, presentations are the same and processes are the same.  The consequence of such similarity is not surprising: the individuality of the Advisor is disappearing.  How does one distinguish oneself in such a generic environment?  Let me give you four suggestions.

First of all, be different.  Similarities do not catch anyone's attention.  Differences attract attention.  Figure out what you can do that will make you stand out in a crowd.  Begin by answering the tough questions.  What do I have to offer that the guy across the street is not offering?  Do I truly add value to the lives of the people I meet?  What makes me different?  Why should someone do business with me?  Log in to read more...
